Flame On
Or: Safety First
So I go into town yesterday. I’ve got a shopping list for projects around the house but, to be honest, I’m really just looking for an excuse to ride in a air-conditioned car and mosey around inside air-conditioned shops. As I approach Main Street I’m met with an odd feeling. The town is as alive and dead as I’ve ever seen. Every shop is shuttered and closed, not a parking space to be had and streets jammed with people all headed in one direction. Seems I just missed a parade in honor of the local Fire Department and everyone’s headed to the parade grounds for a party.
There are ferris wheels, roller coasters and blaring music. Little kids with cotton candy getting rides on fire engines. A wonderful time being had by all. Small town America celebrating America’s last true heroes.
For fire fighters everywhere, thanks for everything.
Happy Trails
