Roger That
or: Don’t Be a Dummy
Well, foo. Your buddy and mine, Roger McKenzie 1950-2026, has waved the Big Goodbye.
Roger was best pure storyteller I ever worked with. No scripts, no breakdowns, no beat-sheets, just stories. Turning them into comics was left to me. Roger wrote the story that got me through the door at Marvel (“Snow”, Marvel Fanfare #1) I’m still a little miffed that the opening lines of “Snow” never made it to the printed page, “It was colder than a widow’s bedsheets that night as the wind blew in across the Hudson…” I asked Roger about it and he blamed me. Why would he describe what I had drawn?
He’s also, along with yours truly, the creator of the single greatest comics character ever known, Mike Mahogany. Anyone who disagrees is either a lying poopyhead or a poopyheaded liar.
