This weeks draw from the Longbox of Mystery reveals the collected edition of DC’s Cosmic Odyssey. I have no memory of ever reading this. My best guess as to having it is that I was still on DCs freebies list in ’92 when the book was published. The reason I kept it was the wonderful artwork of Mike Mignola. Hi, Mike.
I’ve drawn most of the book’s heroes, in one for or another, for the blog over the years but, there’s one I don’t remember ever having seen before. A character called Forager, sometimes referred to as the Bug. A quick web search tells me why. He first appeared in Jack Kirby’s New Gods after Vince Colletta was dropped as the inker on the Fourth World books. As with Thor a few years earlier, without Vince, the art became flat and lifeless. Unlike Thor, this time Vinnie never came back and neither did I.
For no other reason than I’ve never drawn him before, the Forager, Bug.
